The Conservation Focus of e4k is undoubtedly its golden thread moving through all the organisations divisions and holding them together. With our programmes focusing on traditional conservation practices, environmental research or the preservation of cultural and environmental heritage, we are proud to say our passion does not only stop there. Alongside our programs we focus on community development through our various eco -tourism development models and programmes.
e4k finds itself in the heart of the Cape Floristic Region, with our unique educational locations perfectly situated within some of the most critically important areas of this threatened region.
Though our ongoing conservation, education and community based programs we not only pride ourselves in promoting community upliftment and implementing social change, but provide an opportunity to adopt and protect this biodiversity through research programmes, conservation internships and citizen science initiatives.
Fresh Water Ecology and Research forms part of the founding foundations and original vision e4k was built upon. The various unique educational locations are not only perfectly situated for ease of use, but are interlinked by various water ways with some of the locations protecting the source of rivers and some even entire catchment areas. Our conservation, research and community programmes follow various rivers from source to sea.
Keeping true to our passion for fresh water, of our educational and field locations are situated within RAMSAR wetland reserves along our coast. Focusing on the link between conservation, community and eco-tourism our programmes highlight the best these areas have to offer.
Our oceans are the planets climate regulator and with less than 5% of the oceans known to man and the unsustainable utilisation of its resources growing daily e4k is proud to do its part through various strategic partnerships, awareness campaigns and expeditions. Our various field locations also host community development programmes and initiatives.
It was once said that “people, paper and pens” are the true tools of an environmental campaign and we believe this at our core. Community education, upliftment and capacity building is at the core of all the programmes and campaigns managed by e4k. From empowering individuals to participate in learning experiences to stimulating the local economy, we work closely with communities and community leaders.
With environmental curiosity being one of the fundamental aspect of e4k we work with various teams to promote and design research programmes, expeditions and citizen science orientated educational programmes.
With the growth of e4k from a mobile based educational programme to managing field locations, we are pleased to not only involve various community leaders, champions and members in the work we do, but to also provide opportunity to conservation and environmental sciences students, interns and volunteers.
